Below is an overview of our accessibility features and considerations to help you plan your visit

Mobility Accessibility

Our tours involve travel over sand dunes in 4WD vehicles, which may present challenges for individuals with limited mobility.

Assistance can be provided for boarding and exiting our 4WD vehicles; however, guests must be able to be seated independently while on board our busses.

Sandboarding requires walking up and down sand dunes, which may not be suitable for those with mobility impairments.

Limited seating is available at the tour site, and soft sand terrain may be difficult for mobility aids.

Hearing Accessibility

  • Tour guides provide verbal instructions and demonstrations before sandboarding.
  • Guests who are deaf or hard of hearing are welcome to inform our team in advance so we can make necessary accommodations, such as written instructions or one-on-one demonstrations.

Vision Accessibility

  • Guests with low vision or blindness may require assistance from a companion, as navigating the sand dunes independently can be challenging.
  • Verbal descriptions of the experience and environment can be provided by our guides.

Medical Considerations

  • The physical nature of sandboarding involves balance and coordination; guests with medical conditions that may be affected by physical exertion should consult their doctor before participating.
  • We recommend guests bring necessary medications, such as asthma inhalers or EpiPens, as the closest emergency medical facilities (Tomaree Hospital at 2 Trevally Street, Nelson Bay) is a 15 minute drive from our meeting point in the lower carpark, with only basic first aid available on-site. The closest defibrillator is located at the Birubi Beach Surf Life Saving Club which is a 200m walk from our meeting point.

Sensory Considerations

  • Sandboarding can be a high-adrenaline experience, and the environment includes bright sunlight, strong winds, and shifting sand.
  • We suggest sunglasses, hats, and protective clothing for comfort.
  • If you have sensory sensitivities, please inform our staff, and we will do our best to support your experience.

Service Animals

  • Service and working dogs are welcome on our tours; however, due to regulations in national parks, therapy dogs and pets are not permitted.
  • If you require a service dog, please notify us in advance so we can provide guidance on suitable arrangements.

Additional Support

Our team is happy to assist in any way possible to enhance your experience.

If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us before booking to discuss suitable arrangements.

We are committed to making our sandboarding tours an inclusive experience for as many guests as possible. If you have any questions or require further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to 4WD Tours R Us.
